This is a light & sweet movie. Nicolas Cage is Balthazar & he has been trained along with 2 others as sorcerers by the great Merlin. But Merlin made 1 mistake; he should have trusted just 2 as Horvath (Alfred Molina) betrays him. Unfortunately Monica Bellucci (Veronica) has a very small role but just like always she looks really charming.
For thousands of years Balthazar searches for the heir of Merlin who could kill Morgana. Eventually he meets Dave (who is the Prime Merlinian) in Manhattan at Arcana Cabana. He was the kind of kid who never thought he could do something big although he was a really good student.
Dave is actually a nerd & he brings in Science to fight Morgana. However, it’s difficult to shatter the myth that nerds are more fun than the average people. Anyhow, the good conquers evil in the end.
I really liked Nicolas Cage in this role. It’s a little different from what we see often. I don’t know why doesn’t he ever experiment.
This one is a family flick. I think kids will really like it.
