Now this is extremely sad, this year hardly 3200 tigers are left in the wild. 2010 was the Year of The Tiger. The next Year of The Tiger will be in 2022 and experts fear there will be no more tigers left here. That is a big big loss for us.
Documentaries are showing that the natural rehab for tigers is being destroyed by making plantations, business, factories and much more...whether legal or illegal is another matter. The important thing is that the tigers are losing their home.
The catch is, that tigers can be conserved and protected, if they are given space, prey and proper safe environment. Sometime in the coming months, the 13 Heads of Government from countries that still have wild tigers will come together in St. Petersburg, Russia, for an historic meeting: The Tiger Summit. A chance for them to act and double the number of wild tigers by 2022, the next Year of the Tiger!
In pledging your support for tigers, we hope to use that weight of public opinion to persuade these Leaders to:
- Agree on a programme of work to double the number of tigers in the wild
- Create a sustainable financing mechanism for key components of this programme.
- Create a new intergovernmental platform for overseeing and monitoring its implementation.
