Lately I was fortunate enough to watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose once again. These days I don’t get to watch movies & this was a treat, cause it makes us question things which are beyond human understanding. You either believe in a thing or you don’t. I don’t think it’s about faith. It’s much beyond that.
This was based on a true story. The victim’s real name was Anneliese Michel. She was being possessed & later on, her priest was tried in a court of law for negligent homicide. Her mother (Anna Michel) said in 2005:
"I know that we did the right thing because I saw the sign of Christ in her hands. She was bearing stigmata and that was a sign from God that we should exorcise the demons. She died to save other lost souls, to atone for their sins."
There are 3 kinds of hypersensitive people – some has the ability to know future, some can see visions, but some can be invaded by the darker forces. Those who can foresee the future & those who have visions also lead very abnormal lives. There is immense pressure on that person, but the one who gets invaded by evil spirits I guess suffer the most.
A person who is possessed can be called epileptic. The patient may suffer from convulsions & in medical terms you call it epileptic attack & epilepsy can be the cause of demonic hallucinations. All the symptoms may point out that the person is severely ill & needs treatment, but many times even Science does not have any answer. If hallucinations are really hallucinations, then yes something could be done, but if the Devil is involved, then how are you going to deal with it?
I was also thinking about black art & the thing is…how do you fight the devil? In nearly all the cases, good doesn’t always triumph. Fine. You have a strong faith. You are also spiritually powerful & yet somehow it’s impossible to beat the Devil. We have particular verses which can help us fight with demonic forces. But it takes years & years & yet you can’t fuck the Devil.
This particular girl Anneliese is now regarded as a saint. She saw the Devil & through her sufferings, others will believe in the existence of good & bad. Those who believe are the ones who already believe in it. Agnostic & atheists won’t be joining the clan.
I once read that 5 members of a family killed themselves. They believed someone was casting spells on them. The doctor was 100 % sure that they were all schizophrenic. 1 or 2 persons can commit suicide but when 5 people commit suicide in the same family, it can’t be just mental illness. It ought to be something else. Even suicidal people know that many times when they try to commit suicide, they are not actually committing it, but they just harm themselves a little; they know they won’t die. In this particular case, 5 people are dead.
I like how the lawyer Erin Bruner talks about the chance of possibility in the movie. Such cases are not about facts, cause facts don’t leave room for doubt. Anything is possible & we need to keep an open mind.
Some people believe in black magic & demonic possessions, cause it’s written in the Quran & their Holy books. Some people believe in it cause they experience it. Some live in this century & refuse to believe in that crap at all. I can believe almost anything, cause I don’t think people like to create strange myths about themselves. No one wants to sound like a huge joke. Strange things happen in life.
PS I got some pics of Anneliese & one pic is from the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
