Alice in Wonderland

Last weekend I saw Alice in Wonderland & yes it was kind of fun watching it. Although they have made some changes, but the movie is nice, over all. Johnny Depp seems lovely. I just can’t think of any other word. By the way, the character of Mad Hatter was based on a well-known Oxford eccentric. It’s really an extraordinary character.

The original book has 42 illustrations done by John Tenniel, but Lewis Carroll was a prime pain to work with & so Tenniel refused to work with him ever after this pretty bad experience. Anyhow the good thing about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking- Glass is that this book encourages young readers to think for themselves rather than following the rules set by adults.

I really like the dialogues between Alice & the Cheshire-Cat when they meet for the 1st time:

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to, said the Cat.

“I don’t much care where - “said Alice.

“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.” said the Cat.

It’s quite hilarious when the Mad Hatter comes with tea cup in one hand & a piece of bread & butter in the other when he was called in as a witness in the book. Here it goes:

“I beg pardon, your Majesty, he began, “for bringing these in; but I hadn’t quite finished my tea when I was sent for.”

“You ought to have finished,” said the King

“When did you begin?”

“Fourteenth of March, I think it was,” he said.

But Alice in Wonderland doesn’t make you sad in any way. In fact it gives you the idea of coming up with 6 impossible things.
