Satyam Shivam Sundaram

Few days ago, I watched bits & pieces of Satyam Shivam Sundaram. I wanted to watch the entire movie, but unfortunately, I didn’t have time. Somehow I’ve always liked the story-line. It’s a very beautiful kind of love.

Roopa had an accident in her childhood & her face was disfigured. Even when she was a kid, everyone regarded her as unlucky. It's really saddening that her name was Roopa & yet she went through such a lot of torment. Half of her face was burnt.

Whenever we talk about this movie, usually the only thing we hear is that Zeenat Aman was practically nude in it. But there is more to it than that. What I find extremely alluring in it is the idea kay sach hee khoobsurat hai. Although truth is invariably surrounded by lies & there can be some ugliness in it too…in spite of that, its beauty cannot be lost amidst all the chaos created by the world.

The character was Shashi Kapoor couldn’t stand ugliness at all. He had aversion to it. And he falls for a woman whose face was half-burnt.

And I love the title song. I suppose nothing could be more beautiful than the voice of Lata. Kya baat hai:

"Ishwar satya hai

Satya hee shiv hai

Shiv hee sundar hai"

Somehow this story also reminds me of this line of Shakespeare:

"Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds."
