Last night I was looking at the pics of Mona Lisa & The Last Supper on the net. Of course looking at the real paintings would be altogether another experience. Although The Last Supper is regarded as the best work of Leonardo, I think Mona Lisa is a far better work.
The critics have always claimed her to have this uncanny look. And yes you could see a bit of sadness in her perpetual smile. Her eyes seem quite real even on the screen of a monitor. They say it’s a self-portrait of Leonardo, but I have also read somewhere that she was actually a model. Whatever the case is, Leonardo is very much in his painting. He has employed techniques that still play games with an ordinary person.
The smile depicts that this person has seen it all & she’s really mocking at us. If you care to look at her for 5 minutes, she has the power to make you feel naked. On second thought, I wouldn’t mind hanging her painting in my corridor or living room :P
I didn’t really enjoy looking at the pic of The Last Supper somehow.
