Chandni (continued)

Finally I managed to watch the 2nd half of Chandni & it was far better than the 1st half. I like the character of Lalit (Vinod Khanna). He was mature & didn’t seem cheap at all. The role of his mother was being played by Waheeda Rehman & she looked graceful. Moreover, she was really a cool mom.

Although the romance of Rohit & Chandni seemed cheap, but their love was of course genuine. There was something very pure about it. But men always take women for granted. Even Rohit left Chandni. When he came back, it didn’t enter his mind that Chandni could have met someone. Very conveniently he took that she was waiting for him. I do find it a little unfair that it’s always up to men to decide. It doesn’t matter what a woman feels. They only take the step when things are how they want them to be.

Anyway, the best thing about Chandni is the song ‘Lagi aaj saawan ki.” I loved it when I heard it for the 1st time in 89 & but I didn’t know that at some point in my life, I could understand the real meaning or let’s just say I didn’t know that it’s song for people like me who are destined to stay alone. I just love this stanza:

Koyi Kassh dil pay bas haath rakh de

Meray dil kay tukron ko eik saath rakh de

Magar yeh hain khawaabon khayaalon ki baaten

Kabhi toot kar cheez koyi judi hai

No wonder I like the character of Lalit as I see myself somewhere in it :)
