Level of intolerance

Recently a retired brigadier manhandled a NUML professor right in front of the students. The reason for this beastly behavior was that he couldn’t agree with the views of the professor on the ex-president of Pakistan. The level of intolerance is something that can be witnessed everywhere in the world. That’s why we have coined certain terms too in the dictionary.

Everyone is entitled to his/her viewpoints, but there are some who are not willing to stomach those views or even listen to them in the 1st place. They think they have the right to rape everything that they don’t think much of or can’t understand or see eye to eye with another & amusingly, others are answerable for his/her views to them. I suppose they are from the dysfunctional planet or something & such inhabitants exclusively demand others to be answerable. At the same time, majority of people don’t have opinions & if they somehow manage to have one, they are just following some one or the other. Usually those people have the same opinion; someone else does the thinking & they grab & guard the view quite religiously. 3 cheers for such creatures!

I like Musharaff, but I think people have the right to dislike him. However, there is no need to hit or abuse someone who doesn’t see eye to eye with you. Now why do you think some politicians are supporting Dr. Aafia? I have given this example, as the media has worked really hard on this one. Do the politicians actually care about this lady? No, they are actually speaking against the government of Musharaff. It’s like support one thing & play a totally another game. But beyond any doubt, Musharaff has his faults & it goes true for all the others playing politics in this country.

Few days ago when I wrote a paragraph on one of the clips of Imran Khan in which he was badmouthing Altaf Hussein, one of his fans (who couldn’t stand that people have the right to express themselves & that too on their own blog) abused & cursed us to suffer from cancer & eventually beg Imran Khan for treatment. I don’t know about that fan, but if I’d be in real trouble, I believe the only being who could help me is God, not some mortal.

By the way, in the world of cricket, one may destroy the career of Javed Main Dad, but in the world of politicians, the rules are different as it’s a different ball game & the players are big predators. You can’t shake someone’s position by badmouthing.

Moreover, can’t such people read the name of the blog? Can’t they see it’s a personal blog where authors talk about anything they feel like & you don’t have to agree with us! After all, opinions are just opinions & I’ve said this a couple of times that opinions, by all means, cannot alter facts. No wonder facts are sacred. Today I’d go to the extent of saying that writers, critics, readers, fakers, losers, bullshitters, rabble rousers & all the others have no right to say to anyone: Chup karo Amina bai! Although it’s very convenient to say shut up when you are not intelligent enough to support your statement with evidence, but such utterances never have any weight whatsoever. Psychotic reactions may have effect on a 14 year old, but not on authors.

“And indeed We have put forth every kind of example in this Quran, for mankind. But man is ever more quarrelsome than anything.”

Surah Al-Kahf

“If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, & only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind…But the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth; if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception & livelier impression of truth, produced by is collision with error.”

J. S. Mill

Yesterday my sister shared this link with me. Someone has created an incredible hate group. They all hate people who play various games like Mafia Wars, Farm Ville, etc. They get bothered by the posts & I guess they don’t know there is an option of hide, but you need to use your brain cells a little to make things vanish from your News Feed. However, it seems some people have all the time in the world to badmouth others who are totally engrossed in virtual games. And I wonder what’s the word they use for themselves when they keep thinking about others & their activities. I bet the word is loser. I mean how do you know that those who play such games have no lives. Everyone has a life…whether it’s good or bad is a different story. Nevertheless, when you assume that others have no lives, it simply indicates that there is something wrong with yours & so you are on the hunt of targeting others so that you can feel better.

Again this example also shows high level of intolerance, as it’s not your business as to how one enjoys on the net. You do that by hating & creating groups where you could badmouth others & some do that by playing games. And what’s wrong with that? Even adults can play games, but yeah many will take a century to digest this concept.

Gays & lesbians are the most hated people on this planet. What is their crime? Just because a person is not attracted towards the opposite sex doesn’t mean that the world has the right to hate him. Science has proved more than 15 years ago that the pin-shaped object, which controls sexual functions in homosexuals is more like females; naturally they would be attracted towards the same gender. Being straight or gay is not a choice…it’s something that happens naturally & yet some are being targeted. Moreover, I think it’s also very personal. Whom you sleep with is nobody’s business.

Anyhow, had we been tolerant, this world would have been Utopia.
