Setting Standards

It’s not what others think about you; it’s what you think about yourself, which is far important than anything else. I did learn it almost 9 years ago. I can’t say it’s one of the secrets to stay happy, but for sure you won’t feel miserable. Opinions of others aren’t that significant unless you are used to sycophants I suppose. Bad judgment too is essential. I mean how else would you grow? We need to make mistakes.

Today I read this on a bumper sticker:

“You don’t just stop loving someone; either you never did or you always will.”

Gosh, it almost answered something! But it takes so long to realize & we get the answers too late. Or maybe we get them at the appointed time.

My sister was telling me that people often ask her to lower her standard when it comes to guys. Incidentally, I also read the other day that women ought to settle for Mr. Not So Bad rather than waiting for Mr. Right. So far as my 1st love & lousy crushes are concerned, my standard was way too low & I think my sister also chose all the bummers. She was better off than everyone.

We, females, also know our faults. Can anyone of us call herself Ms Right? If you’re going to be honest, then we all know the answer. I think I’m totally wacky (in a good sense though). My sister too is slightly cracked (I think it’s more than slightly: P). And I know women who are completely mad. And if they are not completely mad, then there are bitches of the highest order. Guys too have faults. You shouldn’t expect them to be knights in shining armors.

I think this entire debate about Mr. Right is crap. People click or they don’t click. The ones who click usually aren’t that great. Sometimes really cool folks fall for those who don’t deserve them. Life cannot have a set pattern. Different sorts of things happen to different people! Lowering or setting your standards wouldn’t change your fate one bit.

Sometimes we don’t get what we want & it turns out to be the best thing, because there could be something else in store. You never know.

I read this few days ago:

“And that it is He (God) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, & makes (whom He wills) weep.”

Surah An-Najm

This verse sheds light on everything. It’s His will. It doesn’t matter whether we raise our standard or lower them.
